The Center for Autism
A state with the highest rate of autism in the country deserves a first-class facility that delivers the highest quality services for individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and Pervasive Developmental Delays (PDD). The Center for Autism at The North Ward Center opened in 2010 to provide those services to individuals and families in the Greater Newark Area. Families in the urban environment face a myriad of increased stressors. In Newark today, more than 1 in 3 children live in poverty.
Under one roof, The Center for Autism offers a seemless and comprehensive array of services for the lifespan of individuals with ASDs and PDD. We treat the whole person and the whole family, focusing on strength-based interventions. Our "one-stop" approach alleviates the navigational maze of bureaucratic delays and confusion.
The Center for Autism offers the following services:
- Evaluation and referral diagnostic services
- Case management/benefits advocacy
- Coordination and family support counseling
- Parent training workshops
- Professional development training
- Self-directed adult day program
The Center for Autism will work in conjuction with Forest Hill Charter School, New Jersey's first charter school for children with special needs. Forest Hill is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2012.
