Adrianne Davis

Adrianne Davis returned to the North Ward Center  (NWC) in September 2008 to take the role of Executive Director after nearly four decades in the government, and educational field. Adrianne is also the co-founder of the North Ward Center.

Adrianne has served in a variety of roles in her career and has a long record of success as an educator, administrator and an elected official.

After graduating from Montclair State College in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in business education, Adrianne landed a job as an instructor of business education at West Side High School in Newark, where she taught a variety of business courses.

In 1973, she left her teaching post to become the administrator at the North Ward Center, a job that encompassed a wide range of responsibilities, including oversight of all administrative functions, writing project proposals and training manuals and coordinating all special events.

During her time at the Center, Adrianne remained involved in education. In 1979, she was named chair of the Board of Trustees of Essex County College in Newark. During that time, she also worked as an adjunct professor in the secretarial science department at the County College of Morris in Randolph. In June 2003, she received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Essex County College.

Adrianne was elected to office in 1982, at which time she won an at-large seat on the Essex County Board of Freeholders. She served for two, 3-year terms.

Although continually dedicated to the NWC, in March 1989, Adrianne was appointed clerk of the Essex County Board of Freeholders.

Adrianne continues to maintain her interest in education. She serves as Vice President of the Robert Treat Academy Charter School Board of Trustees, Vice President of the Essex County Vocational Schools Board of Education and board member of Christ the King Prepatory School in Newark.

Adrianne also is a member of the NJPAC Women’s Advisory Board and a former member of the Essex County Advisory Board on the Status of Women.
