North Ward Child Development Center The North Ward Center is proud to be one of the largest providers of Abbott preschool in the state. The Child Development Center has served more than 4,000 children since it was established in 1975. We now have 40 preschool classes that provide 600 students with fundamental learning skills. We have invested over $10 million to construct four brand new buildings and have done so without taxpayer money. Our newest facility was built in 2006 and is located at 341 Roseville Avenue with 105 students already enrolled. The Abbott Program is free for Newark residents and is open from 7:30am to 5:30pm. To be eligible for the program, residency in Newark is required. Forest Hill Child Development Center In addition to the Abbott program, the Center operates a private child development center. Located in the historic, Forest Hill section of North Newark, the Forest Hill Child Development Center offers an exemplary, private, early-childhood program for two, three and four year old children. Our pre-kindergarten classes provide an environment that enhances a developmentally appropriate education allowing children to grow, learn and acquire skills at their own pace. The Center is open year round from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for major holidays. A healthy breakfast, lunch and snack are provided daily. There are no residency requirements for this program. Please call for information on availability and tuition fees.
